Matto Bar and Pizzeria (Shanghai, China):

For such a modern setting as Shanghai, Matto Bar and Pizzeria, designed by Darryl W. Goveas of Pure Creative, has a charming and rustic setting.

Taking its name from the Italian word for crazy, the place in the sub-city of Pudong is actually remarkably refined, full of subtle greys and deep blues.

The high benches are covered with blue checkered fabric by Zu Design Textile and soft brown leather from Sankon, fitted opposite vintage Toledo chairs from Restoration Hardware. The space features an artful blend of industrial materials, tailor-made fixtures as well as geometric shapes.

The dark and mysterious ambience presents Matto as a diamond in the rough, a design concept which is perfect for the cuisine – providing the prefect backdrop. Victorian cornices disguise the air-con housings, supporting the vintage effect wall lighting.
