Karim Rashid is one of the most prolific designers of his generation. Over 3000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 35 countries attest to Karim’s legend of design.

Master Chef Carlo Cracco, has had an illustrious international career covering multiple Michelin-starred restaurants. In 2007 Ristorante Cracco in Milan was listed in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Karim and Carlo crossed the worlds of design and cuisine at the 2013 Salone del Mobile, Milan.

Q1.What design challenges are unique to hospitality?

The challenge to design a space that inspires, that is original yet comfortable, intelligent yet poetic, and functions seamlessly

Q2.What’s your greatest source of inspiration?

Human beings touch an average of 600 objects a day, and the potential for those designs to benefit the everyday human experience is immense

Q3.What would be your ideal hospitality project?

Designing an organic restaurant in NYC/any city. Organic restaurants are always depressing & cliché. We need inspiring contemporary places!

Q4.What will be the next big interior design trend?

I prefer design that transcends fashionable trends and to work towards new vernaculars that echo our Technorganic digital world

Q5.Which is your favourite restaurant or bar design and why?

@StarrRestaurants gave me my first shot designing a restaurant in Philly for @chef_morimoto. It is my award winning first child.

Carlo Cracco Interview Questions

Q1.What design challenges are unique to hospitality?

Esthetic is always important, for plates, glasses, etc but not less important in the hospitality field is functionality. A good pot should achieve the desired result.

Q2.What’s your greatest source of inspiration?

Certainly travel……

Q3.What would be your ideal hospitality project?

The project I am involved with at the moment is an international cooking school which aims at emphasizing the local products

Q4.What will be the next big interior design trend?

The return to the main elements as for the kitchen

Q5.Which is your favourite restaurant or bar design and why?

Boom boom room at the Standard Hotel in New York, not only for its design and furniture, but mainly for the incredible view on the skyline
