Session Kitchen is a restaurant designed by bldg.collective to showcase and celebrate the intersection of urban art, culture, community, food, and music.
Twelve major installations including hand painted murals, photography and a custom light sculpture created by a hand picked group of global artists inspired the design and act as the integral elements that shape the dining experience in the gallery-like restaurant.
The successful transformation of a former Japanese restaurant required that the new design unite three distinct bar areas and two unique dining spaces over two levels within the 4,000 sq. ft. restaurant.
The commissioned artwork was integral to the design and experience of the dining and bar areas and allowed the spaces to be visually connected while maintaining distinct atmospheres.
The absorbing design features materials and furnishings repurposed from the natural and urban environment to create a refined, urban atmosphere. The sweeping lines of the main floor banquet carry through the space, past a large painted mural, to the glowing light sculpture suspended over the main bar. The intimate upstairs setting features a steel-clad bar and stunning artwork.
