Restaurant & Bar Design Awards Shortlist 2015: Outside

This Restaurant & Bar Design Awards category features any food and beverage space with an emphasis on the exterior. Each of the selected projects in the judge’s shortlist celebrates nature and the beauty of the outdoors is intrinsic to the design.

The Castle (London) offers an exciting alfresco eating and drinking area no matter what the weather. The extensive outdoor area required a covered and protected outdoor space, so Fusion By Design installed bespoke garden ‘sheds’ overlooking the pub to enable guests to eat and drink ‘outside’ whatever the weather.

Creating a cherry forest in a residential town in Japan, the Mirrors building by bandesign is split in half with two symmetrical stainless steel gables, angled towards each other, with large mirrors reflecting a single Camilla tree and the surrounding cherry trees.

George no.5, just outside Amsterdam, offers a fresh new take on a beach club. Designed by Framework Architects, the club combines fresh colours, large palm trees and marble tiles with organic sand, providing an oasis of calm.

Cheering Restaurant in Vietnam (Viet Nam) creates a new system covered by recycled wood beams over an existing steel structure. Blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside, H&P Architects brought people closer to nature and the essence of Hanoi cuisine culture on the sidewalk, thoroughly utilising the view and landscape. Read more about Cheering and it’s unique use of natural elements such as rain water.

Biutiful by the lake

Keeping the surrounding environment as ‘present’ as possible was the goal of Twins Studio. Biutiful by the Lake quickly became a hit on the bar map of Bucharest, Romania. For this project, creating a floating pontoon structure on the lake for a terrace was the challenge, while wood accents in white and blue surround the central bar transparent on 3 sides and the 4th open towards the lake.

Each of the shortlisted entries is viewable on the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards site from the links below.
