The first ‘Restaurant & Bar Design Talk’ outside the UK will be held in Dubai at Mint Leaf of London on the evening of the 29th October 2015. This event is brought to you with Conran Contracts and will gather some of the most influential designers, hospitality operators and developers to discuss the future of Restaurant and Bar Design in the Middle East and end with a signing of TASCHEN’s recently published Restaurant & Bar Design book.
The Restaurant & Bar Design Talk is one of a series of events that form part of Downtown Design, which will be running from October 27th to October 30th and is a key element of Dubai Design Week. Downtown Design is the only platform in the Middle East for the region’s trade professionals to discover original, high quality design from all over the world. The guests represent the region’s most influential designers, hospitality operators and developers, brought together to discuss the future of Restaurant & Bar Design in Dubai and the Middle East.
The Restaurant & Bar Design Talk will see Isabel Pintado of LW Design (Mint Leaf of London designers) interview three internationally renowned interior designers and Restaurant & Bar Design Awards winners.
LW Design won best international bar (Middle East & Africa) in the 2014 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards with their entry Bapas (United Arab Emirates) and Mint Leaf of London is shortlisted in this year’s Lighting Scheme and International Restaurant categories.
Founder of Blacksheep and winner of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards Best ‘Restaurant or Bar in a Transport Space’ 2013 with Jamie’s Italian (Gatwick Airport, Horley) and Best ‘Standalone Restaurant’ with Whyte & Brown (London) in 2014. This year Blacksheep have also had two projects shortlisted in their respective categories, Red’s True BBQ and The Gorgeous Kitchen.
Founder of Robert Angell Design International and winner of Best Multiple Restaurant with Piccolino Cicchetti (London) in the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2013. This year’s entries by the studio include: MARCUS (London) entered into 4 categories and shortlisted in the ‘Restaurant or Bar in a hotel’ category along with two other entries Émile Brasserie (Austria) and Tredwell’s (London). Founder of DesignLSM and winner of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards Overall Best Restaurant with Galvin La Chapelle in 2010 and winner of Best London Bar with The Roxy in the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards (2013). This year the DesignLSM team entered multiple spaces; Beast (London) Burger & Lobster (Cardiff), (Market Place), Chop Bloc (Chelmsford) entered in two categories, Kua ‘Aina (London) and Pavilion (London). Blacksheep, Robert Angell Design International and DesignLSM all feature in TASCHEN’s recently published Restaurant & Bar Design book with previous Awards entries; Galvin La Chapelle and Il Milione (Hong Kong) by DesignLSM, The Crescent Inn (Ilkley, West Yorkshire, UK) by Robert Angell Design International with Inamo (Soho, London) and Kismet (Hyderabad, India) by Blacksheep.
With an introduction by the Editor in Chief of Wallpaper* Tony Chambers, the book features many of the stunning hospitality projects that have been entered into the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Marco Rebora, Founder of Restaurant & Bar Design Awards and TASCHEN editor Julius Wiedemann have selected 100 of the most exciting entries from the past six years.
