The first Restaurant & Bar Design Talks of 2016 will be held at Cabana (Brixton), which has been designed by Michaelis Boyd. The talks will be held on the 24th February 2016 and will be hosted by Restaurant & Bar Design Awards Founder Marco Rebora, who will be in conversation with the Designer of the project Alex Michaelis (Co-Founder, Michaelis Boyd) and Co-Founder of Cabana, David Ponte. Each of whom will discuss the brief, challenges and results of this amazing Brazilian themed restaurant in the heart of Brixton!
Cabana is a Brazilian Barbecue chain with restaurants in Brixton, The O2, Islington, Leeds, Manchester and Wembley to name a few. Co-owned by Jamie Barber and David Ponte, Cabana is an attempt to share a bit of the real Brasil; to bring the eccentricity of Brazilian streets, communal oversized barbecues and the unmistakably Brazilian outlook: ‘tudo bem’, meaning ‘everything’s good’ to the UK.
Born and raised in Rio, David Ponte is the co-founder and owner of the Cabana restaurant chain with business partner and friend of twenty years, Jamie Barber. Ponte’s first foray into the restaurant business was with Momo, striving to make Moroccan food mainstream in London, and he is now successfully doing the same for Brazilian food.
Alex Michaelis established Michaelis Boyd with Tim Boyd in 1995. Since then the studio has built a strong reputation for simple, elegant architecture, with an emphasis on sustainable, environmentally sound solutions. Alex has worked at some of the industry’s largest companies, including Richard Rogers & Partners, Colquhoun, Miller & Partners, and Wickham & Associates.

We organise quarterly Restaurant & Bar Design Talks at innovative food and beverage spaces. The talks showcase the design of amazing food & beverage spaces in the UK and internationally with discussions by both the designer and their client. The events are attended by the region’s most influential designers, architects, hospitality operators and media.
